*Eastern Railway, Howrah Division Observes 80th Independence Day*

The 80th Independence Day was observed with patriotic fervour at the New DRM Office, Howrah Division, on 15th August 2026. The programme was graced by Shri Vishal Kapoor, DRM/Howrah, as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Mrs. Priti Kapoor, President, ERWWO, Howrah, other senior officers, staff members and their families.

Shri Vishal Kapoor, DRM/Howrah, hoisted the National Flag, followed by the Rashtriya Salute and National Anthem, and inspected the parade contingent. He appreciated the efforts of officers and staff and emphasised the importance of dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence in railway service.

A vibrant cultural programme was presented by Shishu Vihar/BMG, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Divisional Cultural Association and RPF, featuring dance, music, Karate/UAC and a Nukkad Natak. A special demonstration by the RPF Dog Squad was also a highlight of the programme.

As part of the Independence Day observances, the Mayurakshi Express (13045/13046) was specially decorated with an exhibition showcasing important milestones and inspiring chapters from India’s freedom movement. The exhibition paid tribute to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and reflected the enduring values of freedom, unity and patriotism.

The occasion also marked the commemoration of 50 years of Agnibina Express at Howrah Station, recognising five decades of its service and enduring association with passengers.

The programme concluded with Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, reaffirming the spirit of patriotism, unity and dedication among the Railway family.
